The excitement is building as we approach the 2024 Yankee Homecoming (YHC), and one of the most anticipated events is just around the corner! On Saturday, July 27th, at 6:00 pm, the Waterfront Stage will come alive with the sounds of the 13th Annual High School Battle of the Bands. This electrifying event showcases the incredible musical talents of high school students from our local communities, and it’s a night you won’t want to miss.
The Battle of the Bands is more than just a competition—it’s a celebration of youth, creativity, and community spirit. Qualifying bands and solo/acoustic acts from Amesbury, Groveland, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, and West Newbury will compete for fantastic prizes, including the honor of being the opening act for a YHC evening waterfront concert.
Prizes Include:
- First Prize: $100 cash, the opening act for a YHC evening waterfront concert, and a paid performance on a YHC parade float on Sunday, August 4th.
- Second Prize: $100 cash and a paid performance in Market Square on Saturday, August 3rd.
- Third Prize: $100 cash.
Solo/Acoustic Division:
- First Prize: $100 cash and a paid performance in Market Square on Saturday, August 3rd.
- Second Prize: $100 cash.
High school students residing in or attending school in the aforementioned towns can apply. Bands will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis from each town, with up to a maximum of 10 bands. After June 27th, applications will be open to all high school bands and acoustic/solo acts, up to the 10 acts maximum. Each application must be signed by a music teacher, band teacher, or music director who can vouch for the applicant’s musicianship.
The High School Battle of the Bands is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to showcase their talent, gain performance experience, and be part of the vibrant YHC festivities. The energy and enthusiasm these young artists bring to the stage are truly inspiring, and we are proud to support and celebrate their musical journeys.
