History Tour: Newburyport’s Synagogue and Congregation Ahavas Achim. 53 1/2 Washington Street\, the corner of Washington and Olive. Join Rabbi Alex Matthews and Public Historian Kristine Malpica for a tour and talk about Newburyport’s Synagogue and Congregation Ahavas Achim (Brotherly Love\, in English). Founded in 1896\, this is one of the oldest Jewish congregations in Massachusetts. On September 10\, 1933\, the Ahavas Achim community purchased their current building on Washington and Olive Streets when the Methodist church that had occupied it merged with another congregation. As The Daily News reported: “It was a big day for the Jewish people of Newburyport and was the result of many years. It was estimated that over 700 members of the Jewish faith attended the opening ceremonies\, plus hundreds more came to extend their best wishes.” Newburyport’s Jewish community took great pride in their beautiful new sanctuary and continue to make efforts to preserve its historic architectural character. Congregation Ahavas Achim recently celebrated its 125th anniversary\, and today remains a vibrant house of worship which welcomes the participation of interfaith families and people of all races\, color\, national origin\, abilities\, and sexual orientation or identity\, fostering the practice of Jewish traditions through acts of charity (tzedakah)\, loving kindness (chesed)\, and cultural and educational programming for all ages. \nSaturday\, August 1\, 10 am to 6 pm. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nA Road Rally has been described as “a scenic drive with a purpose” or “an extremely large board game where your car is the playing piece.” Teams consisting of a driver and a navigator (and maybe a few passengers)\, compete to see who is the best at following route instructions. Speed will not get you the trophy! You’ll be scored based on your ability to follow the course accurately\, and answer questions along the way. \nYankee Homecoming’s Road Rally will take through our picturesque city. DESCRIPTION:In partnership with NBPT Cornhole\, we are pleased to announce our beginner and competitive Corn Hole Tournament will be back again this year  (to be held on different days/locations)\nRegistration is now open for both beginners and competitive click HERE\n \nWe are excited to announce this years competitive cornhole will take place on Saturday July 25th at our Yankee Homecoming Kick Off Party.  This is our newly revamped Brewfest which still holds all the things we loved about the Brewfest but is now open to all ages with over 20 booths sampling their beer\, ciders and malt beverages as well as kids games and an inflatable obstacle course.\n\n\nVIP Golden Tickets for this combination event will be on sale through NBPT Cornhole on May 1st for just $50/each and will include:\n* Entry for 1 to the Newburyport Yankee Homecoming Brewfest.* Limited Drink Samples from the 20+ Breweries on Site.* Entry for 1 into NBPT Cornhole’s Competitive Cornhole Tournament\nWhile this event has been a BYOP event in the past\, this year we will be using our Switcholio format. Players will each play 4 round robin games with randomly matched partners. At the conclusion of round robin play\, players will be sorted by record and matched up with another player for a double elimination tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded to at least the top 3 teams.\nAdmission to this event will be limited to 64 spots\n\n\nMore information on our Kick Off Party along with regular ticket sales into the event (without cornhole entry) can be found HERE\n\n
